Jun 3 – 2 Samuel 3:22-39, 2 Samuel 4, 2 Samuel 5:1-5 Acts 1:1-22 Psalm 69:13-28

Acts 1:11

“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Why are you looking up? The angel asks this and then says He’s coming back in the same way that He just left.

At first you wonder – then isn’t that a really good reason to keep looking up?

But that misses the point.

Yes, they could have kept looking up – but they had a job to do. Jesus is coming back and the world needed to know – they needed to hear the good news!

If the early church had just kept looking up… they wouldn’t have spread very far.

We should be ready for HIs return – but readiness isn’t just waiting and looking. It’s getting ready. In the parable of the talents, it’s the lazy servant who didn’t prepare for the return of his master.

Let’s not be a church who spends all their time looking up, waiting for HIs return – but a church that is active and reaching the world so that when He returns finds a church faithful to His mission and commission.
