Jun 2 – 2 Samuel 2:8-32, 2 Samuel 3:1-21 John 21:1-25 Psalm 69:1-12

2 Sam 3:1

The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.

Sometimes we can think the line of Kings in Israel goes from Saul to David – and we forget this two year reign (still counts) of Ish-Bosheth.

A surviving son of Saul, even though David had been anointed by Samuel, Ish-Bosheth was made king over all of Israel except Judah, who had made David King.

He tried to make a stand against God’s man. But what happens when we do that? His house became weaker and David’s became stronger. We was onto a losing battle, because he was fighting against the one God chose.

Man may make his plans, but God orders his steps. Fighting against the plan of God does not go well. Just think – if he had not fought, many men would not have died. He could have had a place in David’s kingdom because David was an honourable man. But instead of God’s plan, he chose his own.

John 21:22-23

Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” Because of this, the rumour spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”

John did not remain alive until Jesus came back. HE was never going to… he says so himself in his gospel that it was a rumour circulating because people misunderstood what Jesus had said.

The point Jesus was making was far simpler. What if he chose for John to live until He returned? What’s that to anyone else? What is that to you?

You see often we can become so focused on what God is doing with someone else, or what God should be saying to someone else, or someone else’s response to God that we forget about our walk with Him.

If God chooses to bless someone else, what’s that to you? If God raised up someone you didn’t expect what’s that to you?

We don’t get to choose who God chooses. He does.

We need to focus on our walk with him and stop getting distracted by everybody else’s.
