Sep 24 – Isaiah 57:14-21, Isaiah 58, Isaiah 59 Ephesians 3 Psalm 111:1-10

Isa 57:20-21

But the wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot be quiet, and its waters toss up mire and dirt.  There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”

When someone has had a long and hard day it’s not unusual for them to roll their eyes at the busyness and say, “no rest for the wicked”. We say it glibly and lightly.

We forget where this saying comes from.

It is not a light, fluffy saying.

There is no peace for the wicked. There is no rest for the wicked. They are like the tossing sea – the sea cannot be still and quiet, it’s against it’s nature. So it is with those who live in defiance to God – there’s no peace.

That’s true in life and in death.

There are many tombstones that say “Rest in peace”. But for the wicked, that’s not true. No peace in life, no rest in death.

The only peace can be found in Jesus Christ.
