Prov 21:9

It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.

Ok I couldn’t read through this part and not mention it. As a young Christian I’d read this and have a good giggle. Yes, I know thats immature.

But there’s great wisdom here. Really great.

First – let me start with saying, this whole book is written “to my son” so it’s written from a male perspective. But don’t think that this isn’t meant both ways, because the same is true of a quarrelsome husband too.

The point is this, your home is your place of comfort and rest.  We value our time in our home. But what is that worth if your home is full of strife?

The houses in the middle east had flat roofs – you could go up there for prayer, for a number of purposes. But it’s not as comfortable as the home – it’s not the place that you belong.

But better that than deal with contention all day.

It’s important to seek peace in your home, because when your home life is not right, is sets everything else in your life off kilter. Invest into your family. Where there is quarrel seek peace. Where there is disharmony seek harmony. Don’t let your household be a place that you’d rather not be – but treat your home and your family with grace and love.
