Jul 23 – Hosea 8, Hosea 9 Romans 8:1-17 Proverbs 17:25-28, Proverbs 18:1-6

Rom 8:1-3

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh

Condemnation and conviction are different things – don’t confuse them. There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ – Amen to that! Condemnation means disapproving and sending for punishment. God doesn’t look at you like that when you are in Christ.

But the Holy Spirit does convict us. He does rebuke us. And those things are not about punishment but growth.

If you treat conviction like condemnation and run from it, you’ll never develop.

But thank God – because we were unable to fulfil the law – Jesus did it for us, there’s no condemnation, because Jesus became the offering that sin requires.

Prov 18:2

Fools find no pleasure in understanding

but delight in airing their own opinions.

Thousands of years ago, Solomon in his book of proverbs perfectly summed up twitter and social media – before they ever existed.

So many opinions… so little understanding. We can’t live on opinions. Opinions are like armpits… everyone has them and most of them stink.

What we need is truth and understanding – and that only comes from God. We can’t live our life influenced by opinion. And those who have them will share them often. Social media didn’t invent this, it just provided a bigger platform for it.

It’s easy to spend time online, on youtube, facebook, wherever, looking for opinions that you agree with. You can create an echo chamber, where all you hear are your own opinions coming back. But that’s not the way to understanding. We need to challenge what we think – we need to test it against the word of God and be willing to change it should we need to.

Don’t seek validation for your opinion – seek understanding.
