Jul 22 – Hosea 6, Hosea 7 Romans 7:7-25 Psalm 88:9-18

Rom 7:18-20

For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.c For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

It’s easy to read Romans and feel a little confused. Paul said I’m dead to sin – that I’m living in the Spirit. So how is it possible for me to do things that are wrong? How can sin still be in my life?

It seems a contradiction. How can this conflict be in us?

Well take comfort – Paul wondered the very same thing about his own life. He too, wrestled with these things.

Although he wants to do good – evil is right there with him. Ever fly like that? He talks about this war inside him, even referring to himself as a wretched man!

But verse 25 gives us the answer and shows us the hope. Who will rescue us from this body of death? Jesus Christ our Lord is our deliverance and our salvation. Where we lack He does not!

You are not good enough. He is. Dying to sin is not a one time deal – we must die daily. We must rely on the cross daily, or the old life will continue to dominate us.
