Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.
Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it.
What a wonderful prayer this is. It’s a great thing to pray before reading the word of God. “Lord, give me understanding”. The bible needs to be read with understanding and the best mind is when it’s illuminated by The Holy Spirit. It’s a great way to approach your daily reading.
But understanding on its own… it’s not worth much. There is a second part to that prayer “that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.” Understanding needs to be partnered with obedience. Hearing need to be paired with doing.
Don’t just ask for understanding but help with obeying.
