Jun 1 – 2 Samuel 1, 2 Samuel 2:1-7 John 20:10-31 Proverbs 13:20-25, Proverbs 14:1-4

John 20:29

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Sometimes I wonder what it must have been like to be one of the disciples. To be near Jesus, to see Him face to face, to be able to ask Him questions and hear from Him.

That must be a real blessing.

Then I remember this passage. Blessed are those who have not seen and believed.

We have a great blessing. We’ve not seen, yet we have believed.

I’ve never seen the face of Jesus, but He’s changed my life. I’ve never stood next to Him but I feel His presence near me. I’ve never been able to ask Him questions and hear Him answer… but I actually have – that opportunity is presented to me each time I pray.

What a blessing it is, to have faith.

Prov 13:22

A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children,

but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Here’s a verse I’ve heard misused many a time.

The wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. I’ve heard this used to say Christians should be rich. I’ve heard it used as an end times prophecy and that in the last days there will be a great transfer of wealth from the world to the church.

Both are ideas that I’m sure many people would like to hear. Shame this proverbs does not say that.

First – this is a proverb not a prophecy. It’s an example of wisdom not an example of Kingdom economics.

Foolish and wicked people don’t look after the provision that’s been given to them. They misuse it and don’t think about consequences. But a righteous person thinks about those who will come after him.

A fool and his money are easily parted – but we would be wise to consider making sure that our families are cared for financially. There’s a great lesson here that can be missed by reading this verse wrong.
