Jul 9 – 2 Kings 18, 2 Kings 19:1-13 Acts 27:13-44 Psalm 82:1-8

Ps 82:6-8

I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;

nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.”

Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations!

Ok, so this verse has caused some poor theology in the past. It’s been taken by some to say we are “god’s” with a small g. Don’t take it like that – it missed the point.

Here’s the point. There are some extremely powerful men in the world. There are some who God has raised up to high places – not just rulers in Israel but in all nations. They’ve been given authority by God to rule and lead.

And it’s hard to have authority and power and not to let it go to your head. And they need to know this – you are just normal people. You will die, just like everyone else. You will stand in judgement before God just like everybody else.

We need to remember our place and not get too excited about ourselves. All of us. Leaders, rulers and CEOS will all end up as dust. And it’s important to keep that perspective so that they rule and lead with God in mind. That way they can rule and lead righteously.
