Jul 25 – Hosea 11, Hosea 12, Hosea 13, Hosea 14 – Romans 9:1-21 Psalm 89:9-13

Hos 13:14

I shall ransom them from the power of Sheol; I shall redeem them from Death. O Death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion is hidden from my eyes.

Paul would quote this passage – or at least give a call back to it in the book of Corinthians.

In Hosea it’s a note of hope, that there will be restoration after the exile in Assyria. But it also looks forward to the coming Messiah.

Paul uses it in this sense. Because of Jesus, death will be defeated. What was mortal will become immortal.

Today death stings. But there is coming a day when the sting is taken and death shall be no more.

Rom 9:20-21

But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is moulded say to its moulder, “Why have you made me like this?”

Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honourable use and another for dishonourable use?

Ouch!

Who do we think we are when we dare answer God back? Who do we think we are when we accuse God of wrongdoing?

Look, there are many things that I do not understand, when looking at the old testament I certainly wonder how God allowed what He allows. But I must never judge God. I must never judge His methods or His plans – what does the moulded have to say to the moulder?

He’s the potter not you. He makes the rules, not you. He decides, not you.

Don’t ever get the arrogance to think you can teach God a thing or two about morality or the plans He should have for your life.

If you can God ever disagree…. guess who is wrong?
