Eccles 5:10-12

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.

When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?

Sweet is the sleep of a labourer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him sleep.

We can get an idealised version of money in our minds. “If I can just reach this amount – if I can just make this much, then my worries will go away and I can focus on my faith more.”

But it doesn’t work like that. Mo money, mo problems. Also, mo money more expenses.

The 2nd Law of thermodynamics states that in a closed system, a gas will expand to fill every available area. The same is very much true of our budgets. As incomes go up, so does our capacity to spend.

Wanting more will never lead to you having enough. Desire doesn’t work that way – desire always wants more and more and more.

Working well, and doing a good job will bring greater contentment than the accumulation of more. Everything in the world is about more and more and more – but as Paul said – real peace lies in finding contentment with what you have.
