Apr 22 – Joshua 1, Joshua 2 Luke 21:5-38 Proverbs 10:11-20

Josh 1:8

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success

We now start the book of Joshua – a record of the conquest of the land and the formation of Israel as a nation.

Joshua took the lead from Moses and understandably he needed some encouragement. Moses was going to be a tough act to follow. And God encourage Him and also give Him some great advice.

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth. Meditate upon it – and then (don’t forget this bit) do all that is written. Then you will have great success.

And that’s advice we should live by. Keep the word in your life. Keep reading it, keep speaking it and keep living according to it. And you will have good success.

Luke 21:34-36

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

Be careful. Not only will many come who say they come in the name of Jesus, yet will lead you astray – but also watch your own attitude.

Life has an uncanny ability to get in the way. And when you take your mind off the fact that Jesus is going to return and rule… your hearts will wander.

You’ll end up living for the day and worrying about the day. And the day will close on you like a trap. Keep ready – for we do not know the day or the hour.

Prov 10:17

Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.

Who likes getting corrected?

No, me either.

But we need it. When we are off track we need to be guided. Discipline and correction are two things we run from but really we should embrace.

It’s those who don’t like been told what to do, those who don’t like having their sin pointed out that will often lead others astray. Don’t be that person.

When you are corrected take it. Change. That’s the way to life.
