Apr 21 Deuteronomy 33, Deuteronomy 34:1-12 Luke 20:27-47, Luke 21:1-4 Psalm 49:1-20

Deut 34:7-8

Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over.

A hundred and twenty. That’s a good, long life. And even at the end, He was still strong and could still see. God sustained him the whole time, just as he sustained the nation.

When it says Israel grieved I can imagine that grief was very strong. For many, he was all they know. He’d led them for 40 years.

For us too, we now say goodbye to Moses. For many months we have followed his story and it ends here.

With this we also complete the Pentateuch, the books of the Law. And we move on.

We are not under the law anymore – but under grace.

As we look back on the books of the law – there’s been times it’s been a struggle. The time in the wilderness is never easy. In our lives, it’s wilderness times that bring tests and teach us to persevere.

But now it’s time to move forward. It’s time to take the promised land.

Ps 49:1-3

Hear this, all you peoples;

listen, all who live in this world,

both low and high,

rich and poor alike:

My mouth will speak words of wisdom;

the meditation of my heart will give you understanding.

High and low – rich and poor alike – the words of this book are for all of you. God is no respecter of status of income. the truth is the truth.

You are not too low that you have moved beyond the reach of our father. And you are not so high that you have no need.

No matter who you are – no matter what you’ve done or how much you have in the bank – we all have the same need of a saviour.
