27/2/18 – Leviticus 1, Leviticus 2, Leviticus 3 Mark 9:33-50, Mark 10:1-12 Psalm 27:1-6

Lev 1:3

“If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish. He shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD.

A male without blemish. Right at the start of this book of the Law, God is already pointing to the coming of Jesus. God is already laying down how He is going to save the world.

But another thing occurs to me as I read this opening chapter… aren’t you so glad we are free of the law? Aren’t you so glad that Jesus fulfilled the law and these sacrifices and rituals are not part of our Christian life?

Thank you Jesus! Your sacrifice covers all our sin!

As you read Leviticus and the books of the Law, remember this. Don’t look for the rules here, look for Jesus.

Jesus paid it all.

Lev 3:16

And the priest shall burn them on the altar as a food offering with a pleasing aroma. All fat is the LORD’s.

All fat is the Lord’s.

You know, if you can’t make a joke during Leviticus when can you?

Next time someone tells me I’ve put on weight my response will be “All fat is The Lords! So that means more of me for The Lord!!”

Mark 9:47-48

And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’

Oh no! He’s doing it again!!!! Jesus is talking about hell! It seems the current trend is to ignore this, or talk around it. But we cannot ignore Jesus’ teaching.

Again, He is warning us – this is not somewhere you want to go. The description here is very vivid and unsettling. Don’t put you hands over your ears and ignore it.

Make sure your eternal destiny is the Kingdom. Make sure you know where you stand with Jesus.

Ps 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation;

whom shall I fear?

The LORD is the stronghold of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid?

The Lord is on your side. Why be afraid? Who could possible even come close to challenging Him?

The Lord is your stronghold. In other words He is your place of protection. Who should we be afraid of? Nobody.

Nobody can separate you from God. Nobody can sever you from Him. So you have nothing to fear.

Fear not! You are on the winning side!
