26/2/18 – Exodus 39, Exodus 40 Mark 9:2-32 Psalm 26:1-12

Today’s thoughts are form Pastor Steve Young:

I notice a recurring theme in some of these scriptures, in Exodus after the tabernacle has been erected, the presence of God in the form of the cloud descends from above the tabernacle and fills it with the glory of God.

The cloud would serve as a shade by day and changed into fire by night to bring warmth to the camp of Israel, also when the cloud moved they would dismantle the tabernacle and the camp and follow the cloud when it moved.

We know God’s presence through the Holy Spirit’s dwelling within us and are guided by him through his promptings within us, just like Israel who were assured of Gods abiding presence, we are never alone.

In Mark 9:2-32 Jesus is transfigured, changed before them in verse 3 “His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.” What a sight to behold, they were all afraid and Peter had a wonderful idea, let us make three tabernacles, did he want to create like the Old Testament tabernacle a place to house the presence of God?

We see also the cloud overshadowing them, then a voice came out of the cloud which said “This is my beloved Son, hear Him!”

In another gospel that describe the transfiguration, the disciples wanted to do the same, to build three tabernacles one for Moses, Elijah and Jesus, Peter was impulsive in his manner and didn’t think things through because of fear.

The Father wants us to hear His son and keep our focus on Him only, not Moses or Elijah even tho they are examples to us, we need to see Jesus only.
