Job 28:0-13

“Man puts his hand to the flinty rock

and overturns mountains by the roots.

He cuts out channels in the rocks,

and his eye sees every precious thing.

He dams up the streams so that they do not trickle,

and the thing that is hidden he brings out to light.

“But where shall wisdom be found?

And where is the place of understanding?

Man does not know its worth,

and it is not found in the land of the living.

Mankind is very proud of it’s achievements. We always have been. We have power to shape the world, cut channels in rocks, dam up streams so they do not trickle. We have mastered the ability to chance things on a genetic level. Great strides in science have taken place in recent years. We have created cultures and justice and many good things.

But we must not be too proud of our achievements. For whilst we have achieved much, it’s nothing compared to what God has done. We may consider ourselves wise, but really we do not know the true value of the wisdom of God.

Man cannot judge God. Man cannot put God in the dock, even when we suffer and do not understand. For his wisdom is greater than any of our achievements. Our picture is small indeed when compared to the all surpassing wisdom of our Lord and God.

Matt 22:11-14

“But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”

There were many who did not accept the invitation. So the King opened it up. This great salvation that we are offered – many reject. But it’s open to all – in the highways and the byways.

But the invitation alone is not enough. We must treat that invitation seriously.

We must be properly dressed.

God has sent the invite to heaven out to all, but it’s not enough just to respond, or put up a hand in a meeting. You need to be adequately clothed. You need the righteousness of Christ to cover you. You need the wedding garment.

You cannot walk unworthy of the blood of Jesus and find it doesn’t matter. Jesus came to change our eternal destiny – but to also change your life here and now. Let Him change you – let Him clothe you with robes of righteousness and you will find yourself with the finest wedding garment, one you could never afford on your own.

But we treat Him seriously. A half hearted commitment is no commitment at all.
