Sep 30 – Jeremiah 1, Jeremiah 2:1-30 Philippians 1:27-30, Philippians 2:1-11 Psalm 115:1-11

Jer 1:4-5

Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,

and before you were born I consecrated you;

I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

God called Jeremiah for a very specific purpose. His ministry was one of warring and one also of hope, tearing down and building up. And it was a ministry to Israel but also to the nations.

Jeremiah was called to this before He was even born. Not just when he was in his mother’s womb but even before that. All knowing, almighty God has a plan for his life before he was born. HE was appointed to be a prophet… talk about destiny!

Now, this is specifically spoken over Jeremiah. But let me ask you – is this any less true of you? Not the calling as a prophet to the nations part – that was specific to Jeremiah, but the rest of it.

It’s not like God has a limited window to look through and got to make plans for Jeremiah but not for you.

No, God knew each of us – not just in the womb but before that. Jeremiah couldn’t hope with this sense of destiny initially – he said he didn’t know how to speak. God’s response is – you go, you speak, you say what I command.

And that’s exactly what Jeremiah did. It was not popular, but it was necessary. But Jeremiah could do it all with confidence because he knew he was in the plan of God.

God doesn’t just know you – he designed you. He wrote the manual on you. And He’s given you a purpose. But we also also have a choice. Jeremiah wasn’t keen initially – but he stepped into that promise. The key for all of us its to step into that which God has called us for.
