Prov 24:33-34

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.

This is some very challenging advice. Life is a marathon, isn’t it? These 80-90 or so years that we have on earth may be tiny in the grand scheme of eternity but they sure do feel like a long time when you are down here.

It’s easy to get tired or step back… and there’s times that it’s right to do that. But we need to be careful that rest does not run into sloth.

A little sleep soon becomes much sleep. A little rest can lead to lethargy. Once that kicks in it’s hard to demotivate again and get going.

But be careful – too much time out and poverty comes upon you like a thief or an armed man. Those are to violent, destructive images… and that’s how serious the effect can be. We have all been called to get involved with the work of God and also to work in life – even in Eden we were designed to be active.

Don’t let a little rest turn into poverty. Don’t let a little sleep lead to you drifting through life. If lethargy is setting in today the best solution is… get up and go!
