Oct 28 Lamentations 1, Lamentations 2:1-6 Titus 3 Psalm 119:113-120

Lam 1:1

How lonely sits the city that was full of people! How like a widow has she become, she who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave.

Jeremiah wanted Israel time and again that judgement was coming. But there was no sense of “I told you so” in him after the exile. Instead, he wept over his nation. He wrote these poem of lament, as he was so moved by the fall of Jerusalem.

What a terrible state Israel was in… even the temple was gone. No more sabbaths or feasts – everything was gone.

When a nation or people we know are in rebellion against God  we must warn them – we must make a stand for truth. But when the consequences of that rebellion bear their fruit… we must never be in a place where we feel happy to see it. That’s not showing the heart of God towards people… like it was for Jeremiah, lament is the appropriate response.

We rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.

Titus 3:47

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

The grace we have received is so wonderful! It’s so amazing!  We have been justified through the grace of God. Actually… I can’t write anything that really adds to this passage, it’s just so great. It’s a wonderful summary of the Gospel and our eternal hope. It’s just great to read this passage to remind yourself of what you now have in Christ.

If you day gets hard – if you feel like you’ve not done good enough, if you feel you are not worthy… read this passage. It will give you some great perspective.
