15/3/18 – Numbers 2:10-34, Numbers 3 – Luke 1:39-56 – Psalm 34:1-10

Luke 1:41-44

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!

But why am I so favoured, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

Ok, we are 3 months in… so let’s get controversial.

When does life begin? At conception, or at birth? Or at some point in between?

It’s a huge debate today – one driven by agendas… just as every big debate is.

The issue of abortion, of course comes into this debate. At what point does a life become life? At what point does choice become murder?

Big questions.

Here we get an interesting thought on that debate. When Elizabeth met Mary – the baby in her womb leaped for joy. John, could sense the presence of God… this guy was a prophet from the start!

He leaped for joy in the presence of Jesus. He worshipped, in other words.

John – whilst in the womb was able to connect with God and worship.

At this time, Elizabeth was 6 months pregnant. Around 26 weeks maximum.

When does life start? I’d say that if John was able to feel delight in the presence of Jesus, he was certainly alive at this point. More alive than some grown ups… therefore life certainly begins before this point.

Ps 34:1

I will extol the Lord at all times;

his praise will always be on my lips.

How often is His praise upon your lips? Our lips can get us into trouble… it doesn’t take much for our lips to declare things that are not good or healthy. I’m sure we can all think of times our lips have said things we wish they had not.

But lips that are constantly blessing God? Those lips are guarded. Those lips are grateful. Those lips are a blessing.

Bless Him at all times. In every situation. Because He is worthy, and in doing so our lips are protected.
