Ps 146:3-4

Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.  When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.

Where does your trust lie? In our rulers? Not only will they let us down, they are just people – who one day will breathe their last and die. They can’t save us. They can’t fix us.

No matter how rich, or powerful someone is, they are going to return to the earth. We are all like vapour. No matter what we plan for – on the days we die those places are over.

So who can save us?

How about one who, when they died it was not the end? How about one, who after three days in the grave – rose again in Glory? How about one who, because they defeated death can confidently say that sin is beaten? When Jesus’ breath departed – He did not return to the earth. He rose again and ascended to heaven and now sits at the right hand of God.

His plans didn’t perish. On the day He died, His plans found completion. He cried out on the cross “It is accomplished!”

Don’t put your trust in princes. But in the King of Kings.
