11/1/18 – Genesis 24:1-67 – Matthew 9:14-38 – Psalm 8:1-9

Gen 24:14 – Let the young woman to whom I shall say, ‘Please let down your jar that I may drink,’ and who shall say, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels’—let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master.”

What an amazing servants heart Rebekah had. When you are looking to see whom God has appointed, both in life and in church ministry – a servants heart is a great place to start. Someone who looks behind just doing the minimum. Someone who is more ham just helpful, but is willing to go above and beyond. That’s the sort of person Rebekah was. That’s the sort of person the church needs. It’s the sort of person we all should aim to be, not someone whose always looking for the route to advancement, but someone whose always willing to serve. They make the best leaders.

Matt 9: 37-38 – Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Why do 20% of people always seem to do 80% of the work? It can be frustrating. But it should be surprising. Jesus Himself said the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few. There are millions of people even in our area who need the gospel. And there’s always a lack of people willing to go.

How do we react to this? Do we get frustrated? Angry? Do we start griping at people who could be doing more?

No. We pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send the labourers out. There will always be a shortage of workers but we must always ensure there is never a shortage of prayer.

Psalm 8:3,4 – When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

Perspective. It’s a wonderful thing. This isn’t meant as a “how tiny and insignificant we are” statement. It’s “how amazing and huge is God!” Statement. Everything we can see, touch, taste, everything that has been created was set in place by Him. He set the stars in their place. When we look at the heavens we see a glimpse of how magnificent He is. And yet… despite His bigness, he is mindful of little me. He cares for little me. He lives little me.

He is amazing.
