Apr 30 – Joshua 17, Joshua 18 John 1:29-51 Proverbs 10:31-32, Proverbs 11:1-8

John 1:29

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

What a strange way to introduce someone! Jesus arrived and John exclaims to the crowd, this is the lamb of God!

Now, understand that we are looking at a different culture to ours. The lamb was an animal very much tied up with the idea of sacrifice for sin in the temple. It was also rooted deeply in their heritage as the animal slain during the Passover and the exodus from Egypt.

They understood the significance of the lamb. It was through the sacrifice of a lamb they were delivered from bondage and set free from sin.

And here we have the lamb “of God” – the ultimate expression of deliverance and forgiveness. John declares why Jesus is here, right at the start of His Ministry. He’s here to take away the sins of the world.

Prov 10:32

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,

but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse.

What comes out of our mouths says a great deal about us. The mouth speaks what the heart is.

If people were to listen to your conversation what impression would they get of you? Someone who is righteous? We need to be wise with our lips. The righteous know what is acceptable to say and what is not. And the wicked lips know exactly the most divisive and cutting and hurtful words to say.

When we let Jesus into our heart, then that should effect what comes from our mouths.  When our heart is changed, our words should be too.
