1/2/18 – Job 22, Job 23, Job 24 Matthew 21:18-32 Proverbs 3:21-35

Job 24:1 – “Why are not times of judgment kept by the Almighty, and why do those who know him never see his days?

Job asks a fair question. He wonders, why do those who do wrong not seem to be punished for it? I’m sure at some point we’ve all asked that same question, especially when we have been suffering.

We suffer yet the unjust seem not to. We have this sense in us of how justice should work and we don’t see it. We see men sin without consequence and live in opposition to God.

This is one of the central themes we can find in the book of Job – with Job as a case study in this problem. He’s done nothing, yet he suffers. SO people assume he’s done something.

And Job finds himself asking why, he even asks if he has done something wrong.

But thank God justice does not work this way. If the Lord was to wipe out every person who’d done wrong off the planet today, who would wake up tomorrow? Would you?

Instead, He has visited us with His love and mercy. He has given us a lifeline and it’s available to us all.

But justice will be done. To those who have not chosen Jesus – God’s justice and judgement will prevail.

Mat 21:28-31 – “What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ And he answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went. And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.

What’s more important, what you say or what you do? It seems obvious – but Jesus is making a huge point here.

There are many who say “I will go” but never go. They talk about all their plans for serving God, but all those plans stay simply talk. Their intentions are right, but they are not willing to step out and pay the cost.

Then there are those who don’t want to go. Those who are reluctant – even in their conversion. But when the time comes, they step up.

Which one does the will of the father?

It doe not matter how many missions teams you sing up for, how many appeals you respond to or how many times you promise God things will change. Until you do what you’ve said – it means nothing.

Faith without works…. It’s dead.

Put legs on your faith and go where the father sends you.
